From sports teams to nonprofits, organizations have partnered with Playworld Systems to bring the benefits of play to all types of communities. We invite you to view our multimedia case studies to learn more.
Health & Wellness:
Lewisburg Area Recreation Park LifeTrail
On a clear, sunny day, there’s nothing better than a walk in the park. In Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, older adults are enjoying that walk with a twist. Moving through seven exercise stations on a half-mile trail, adults are using LifeTrail® to build upper and lower body strength. They are twisting, stretching, toning—and socializing. LifeTrail gives “a walk in the park” a whole new meaning.

Community Building:
Taylor Park with KaBOOM!
In January of 2007, Playworld Systems hosted their annual sales meeting in New Orleans. During their visit, more than 300 Playworld Associates and Distributors joined nonprofit organization KaBOOM! and the New Orleans Recreation Department to build a new playground and restore Taylor Park in Central City, a historic, working-class neighborhood located between New Orleans and the Garden District. Bringing play back to the hurricane-damaged community is a vital part of restoring emotional and physical well-being to people who are working to reclaim their lives. The new playground’s design is based on drawings provided by local children at a Design Day event held in December, providing the community with a true sense of ownership for the build.

Edward Heston School with the Philadelphia Eagles
In the summer of 2006, Playworld Systems and George Ely Associates partnered with the Philadelphia Eagles to build a new playground at a local elementary school in West Philadelphia. Students at the Edward Heston School (Pre-K-8) worked alongside Eagles players, Heston School staff, representatives from the School District of Philadelphia and representatives from Philadelphia’s Mural Arts Program to construct the newly named Heston Eagles All-Star Playground. The Eagles and their Eagles Youth Partnership (EYP) have been building community-changing playgrounds in the Philadelphia area for 10 years.

Gulf Coast Initiative with KaBOOM!, Home Depot® and HandsOn Network
On the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, The Home Depot and KaBOOM! partnered with Playworld Systems and Hands On Network to mobilize thousands of volunteers in seven Gulf Coast communities to build 10 new playspaces. Local children met with organizers from KaBOOM! to draw their “dream” playgrounds and share their ideas for the new playspaces. The children’s drawings were used to create the final playground designs. Planning committees made up of local residents met weekly with representatives from all four organizations to discuss volunteer recruitment, site preparation and children’s activities for Build Day.

Multi-generational Play:
Lewisburg Area Recreation Park
In the summer of 2005, Playworld Systems joined with the Lewisburg Area Recreation Authority (LARA) to unveil Lewisburg Area Recreation Park, a world-class, multigenerational destination park in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. The 22-acre park features multiple playgrounds, a skate park and a wellness path for older adults. The concept of a multigenerational park grew out of a commitment to building community. A central goal was increased health and wellness for everyone. Society needs more opportunities for families and individuals to be physically active, across the spectrum of age. At Lewisburg Area Recreation Park, everyone can play, stretch, grow and learn—together.
