Lewisburg, PA (May 18, 2005) – Evangelical Community Hospital (EVAN), Playworld Systems and Lewisburg Area Recreation Authority (LARA) have partnered to create the LifeTrail Club, a group for older adults with an active lifestyle using Playworld Systems’ LifeTrail system, a series of outdoor wellness stations located on a walking path at the Lewisburg Area Recreation Park on St. Mary’s Street.

The LifeTrail Club will gather from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and again from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 18.  A rain date has been scheduled for Thursday, May 25 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Due to a rained out event in April, the group is going to kick off the club once again with free blood pressure screenings, free healthy snacks, and LifeTrail station demonstrations. Anyone interested in participating can sign up for the free club at the LifeTrail tent located at the park, by the tennis courts. Everyone is welcome to join and those that sign up will receive a free LifeTrail tee shirt.

“The combination of a normal walking routine, a social fitness club, and a bit of encouragement promotes a healthy lifestyle throughout our community”, said Greg Weitzel, executive director of LARA. “Joining the LifeTrail Club enables members to record all activities they complete at the stations and accrue points for prizes.”

Club participants can earn points for activities completed that can be redeemed for prizes awarded by EVAN, LARA and Playworld Systems after every 250 points earned. Each station completed will be one point, walking the entire trail will be one point and for every educational program the Club member attends, they will earn five points.

The LifeTrail system is designed to improve balance, muscle strength, flexibility and overall cardiovascular health. The ten activities offer two different levels of challenge and include upper and lower body warm-ups, forearm rolls, bench steps and standing push-ups. Five of the stations offer wheelchair accessible options.
